Mama’s Music Box.
A Journey Through Family and Heritage.
In this heartwarming film, two grandchildren, Matai and Sam, embark on a quest to find a musical box that once belonged to their grandmother. As they search, they uncover the rich tapestry of their grandmother’s past, weaving together themes of family and cultural heritage. The objective was to develop a brand strategy that initially catered to a Pacific Island audience while expanding its appeal to a broader demographic in New Zealand. We needed to preserve the core themes of family and culture while subtly incorporating references to Christmas, in line with the film's festive theme. The challenge was to balance cultural authenticity with mainstream appeal, ensuring the brand resonated with both the original audience and a wider spectrum of viewers.
The results.
To achieve this, we introduced modern design elements, particularly in typography, to establish a contemporary aesthetic. Subtle Christmas references, like the color red, were woven into the design. The logo features a custom serif typeface that evokes a festive atmosphere, adding a touch of warmth and familiarity.
Through thoughtfully curated photography, we positioned the film as a 'dramady' by utilising soft, light colours that enhance the visual storytelling. This approach created a compelling narrative that appeals to both the heart and humour of audiences, capturing the essence of the film while inviting a diverse audience to join Matai and Sam on their journey.
